All aboard the Twitter boat! Everyone from celebrities, politicians, to health clinics and police forces, are the latest to join the Twitter frenzy.

Twitter is a micro-blogging site where users ‘tweet’ (post messages of 140 characters or less) to friends and followers via mobile texting, instant message, or the web.

Not feeling well, but wondering how long the wait at the walk-in clinic will be? Wonder no longer! Some health clinics are using Twitter to keep patients updated on wait times, hours of operation and give health tips.

Several police organizations are also using Twitter to canvas the general public for information on recent or on-going crimes/investigations, to let people know about upcoming events and to provide the public with safety information. Crime Stoppers even has even begun using Twitter!

Social media is a great way to distribute information to a large piece of the population. It gets people involved and is a proactive way to keep people informed and up-to-date!
