This year, the Prime minister will be honouring Canadian volunteers, local-businesses leaders and non-profit organizations who have lent a hand in bettering their communities throughout the past year. Hopefully, this new tradition will inspire others in taking actions and help those from their communities who need it most

Out of 17 national and regional awards, one award specifically for youth is the National Young Adult Leadership Award. It will be awarded to a Canadian young adult who will be recognized for the amazing work he/she is doing in his/her community. For example, it might be awarded to someone who is using their leadership skills to find solutions to community issues and working towards making their community a better place to live (Prime Minister Website). The regional awards will include: community leader, business leader and social innovator.

If you know someone who has taken the initiative to make a positive difference in your community, nominate him or her! It’s easy and you can find all the information on the Prime Minister’s website. Nominations will be accepted starting April 11, 2011 for the beginning of National Volunteer Week!

It is on behalf of all Canadians that the Government of Canada is saying a big thank you to all those volunteers out there making our world, a better place.
