Have you ever been victim of bullying or witnessed someone getting bullied? Although bullying has existed for a long time, it has recently been brought to light as a handful of teens in the United States have committed suicide because they were victims of bullying. Bullying takes on many different forms and can happen anywhere: at school, among friends, online and even by cell phones. For useful tips on how to deal with bullying and/or cyberbullying, visit the Knowzone section of our web site!

We have all been told that bullying is wrong, that it can cause tremendous consequences like depression, low self-esteem, and can even lead someone to take his/her own life. That is why it is important to take a stand against bullying! And what better time to do it than Pink Shirt Day?!

Does your school participate in Pink Shirt Day?

This initiative began when two teenage boys in Nova Scotia witnessed another youth getting bullied because he was wearing a pink shirt. That night, they messaged everyone they could and asked them to wear pink to school the next day. To their surprise, hundreds of students participated. Since then, two days a year are dedicated to put a stop to bullying, discrimination and homophobia by wearing pink: Pink Shirt Day (this year it’s February 23rd; it falls on the last Wednesday of February each year) and Day of Pink (April 13).

Hopefully, this inspiring story will encourage you to wear pink on February 23rd. Talk to your friends, family, fellow classmates, teachers and encourage them to wear pink to school too! Let students at your school know why it is important to take a stand against bullying to finally act to prevent it and raise awareness!
