We’ll Miss You Too

Think back to when you were just a kid. Take a moment to think of a time when you went to a movie theatre, mall or another public place with some friends or family members. Have you ever stopped to look at a poster on the wall or walked too fast only to lose sight of your friends of family members? It can be a really scary feeling, and I’m sure you felt a huge sigh of relief when you found them.

National Missing Children’s Day (May 25th) is a day when we remember all missing children in Canada and the families that were never able to experience that sigh of relief. It is also a day when we raise awareness about the children who have gone missing and consider how we can help out.

It’s Just a Click Away…

In recent years, many social networking websites have made it easier to connect with friends. They are now being used by various agencies to share information with communities; agencies can post information online and reach a large audience very quickly. They also allow for instant feedback and information sharing. Facebook and Amber Alert have paired up with Canadian provinces and territories to ensure that Amber Alerts reach the widest audience possible. Ontario was one of the first provinces to create an Amber Alerts Facebook page, but it’s catching on in other areas of Canada and the United States.

Here’s how it works. First, ‘like’ the Facebook Amber Alert page for your area. The Amber Alert page will create a new post when an Amber Alert is issued, so keep a look out on your news feed. If you happen to have information that may be useful, the Amber Alert Facebook pages have instructions on how you can help! You can also sign up for wireless Amber Alerts so that you can receive alerts on your cell phone. Who knows, maybe you will provide the tip that will lead to a success story, which might even be posted on the ‘Finding The MISSING Children’ Facebook page.

I’m going to bet that most of you check Facebook at least once a day. So while you surf the web, click your mouse a few extra times to see if you can help find a missing child.
