How to have fun on a budget

Planning events with your friends can be expensive, so here are some tips on how to have some fun without spending all of your money!

Be a Drama Queen

You don’t need to go to some glitzy theatre to see a good play. Check out youth theatres and other small groups; you’re bound to find some entertainment at dirt-cheap prices.

Try Your Luck

Instead of always dining out at a fancy restaurant, you may want a cheap, easy meal that’s sure to be fun for you and your friends. Why not set a potluck where each guest brings one dish (a snack, main course or dessert).

The Ultimate Adventure

Playing Ultimate Frisbee can be an awesome activity, especially if you have a big group of people or a bunch of friends who don’t all enjoy the same sport.

Become the next Spielberg

Many devices such as phones, laptops and cameras can take videos, so why not make a movie? You could film anything from a foot chase to a movie parody. Let your imagination run wild!

If you decide to upload your video online, be sure the video is respectful of yourself and others, and that you have their permission to post it online. Not all videos will be completely private, so remember that anyone in the world could see it!

Make it a Movie Night In

A night out at the movies for two can typically run up a bill of $20.00 or more (and that doesn’t include popcorn and candy). So find a friend with a big screen TV, get some microwave popcorn, and head down to your local video store!

Family Game Night (with friends!)

You’ve probably seen those ads on TV for family game night, when the entire family can get together to talk, have fun and compete against each other. You don’t necessarily have to play with your family in order to have a good time. For a list of some board games, check out:

All of these solutions are activities that you can do over again while paying a small, one-time fee to invest in the tools you need.
