Issue: Lack of activities/programs for youth in my community
Why? The youth in my community are bored due to lack of activities that exist for them

My parents have been helping me engage my community and the political leaders who represent my community. Progress is as follows:

• One response was received basically indicating “it’s not their area of responsibility”.
• Some have not responded to the concerns I have raised.
• One responded by phone to me and would like for me (and other youth who have also raised similar concerns) to attend a meeting and discuss / present our concerns. I am waiting to hear back from them on the details (ie. date, time, etc).

Lack of activities/programs for youth in my community

Why did you choose that issue?

I choose this issue because the youth in my community are bored due to lack of activities that exists for them.  This has led to an increase in violence, substance abuse, bullying etc.  The youth need and deserve programs/activities so that they can learn, develop new skills and interests, and have a fun and safe environment to become involved in.

How are you going to address the selected issue?

Raising these issues and concerns with my community leaders and elected officials who represent my community.

What do you hope to achieve in the next year?

Receive input and help from these leaders to have youth programs and activities implemented such as youth drop-in, movie night, game night, teen dances, youth fitness classes, dance and drama programs, arts and crafts, healthy cooking classes etc.

What progress have you made so far?

I have sent letters to community leaders and elected officials seeking their help; I am waiting to hear back from them.
