(Submitted by Cst. MacInnis)
Things are moving along with our action plan. We are well into our Aboriginal Shield Program moving into lesson 7 now for grades 5/6. There are two other community members facilitating the program with myself, Cst. MacInnis, and we have plans to enhance the program with visits from Elders. We also hope to take the children into the bush to collect natural items to re-create their Dream Shields.
Shelby will be bringing in her new regalia when she gets it and demonstrating her Dancing for the children. We have not yet begun the grade 7/8/9 program but will most likely do that as an after school initiative when the grade 5/6 lessons are completed.
Our Community Feast is still in the planning stages but will incorporate Cultural demonstrations into the event.
Please let me know if you require more information. I expect that the Summer will allow more events to bring Cultural appreciation to the youth with Powwows scheduled.

What issue did you choose to address in your Action Plan?
Crime Reduction through Cultural Awareness and Appreciation.
Why did you choose that issue?
We have both witnessed youth who are actively practicing Cultural Activities being less involved in Criminal Activity in the Community.
How are you going to address the selected issue?
Beginning with Aboriginal Shield Program in both Elementary and junior High Schools and Shelby presenting her dance and drumming at these schools.
What do you hope to achieve in the next year?
Greater Understanding for Youth of Culture and consequences of Criminal Behaviors.
What progress have you made so far?
Cst. MACINNIS has just taken Aboriginal Shield Training along with two other community members and will begin classroom presentations in the new Year
Shelby is already a leader and positive example in her Community for the youth. Her attitude and love of community in classroom demonstrations will bring an appreciation for her Cultural Awareness and Participation.
