Issue: Drugs and Violence
Why? New drugs have started to enter our community. There’s a shift from traditional Marijuana to harder drugs.

Updated : 2011-07-04

Since our last report, we have made progress with youth groups. We have managed to blend in our project with a Community Cadet Program. This way we can engage our target audience, the youth, as well as members of the community who volunteer with the program. Although the community has not been very receptive to our ideas and our progress has been minimal, we believe that once school starts up again we will tackle the issues once again and see real progress.

What issue did you choose to address in your Action Plan? Drugs and violence within the community

Why did you choose that issue? New drugs have started to enter out community.  We are seeing a shift from the traditional Marijuana use to hard drugs like MDMA and LSD.

How are you going to address the selected issue?

  • Intelligence lead policing
  • School presentations
  • Integration and trust between police and students

What do you hope to achieve in the next year? See a decrease in use of hard drugs and an increase in Youth/Police communication

What progress have you made so far? Initial presentation for youth has been coordinated and dialogue has been initiated.
